Detectives believe a British woman was lured into an abandoned house in Athens and killed before her remains were stuffed into a suitcase. The Scottish woman, known only as Elizabeth, is thought to have entered Greece through Cyprus as police work to identify her.
Discovery in Kypseli
A murder investigation was launched after the suitcase was found in the Kypseli neighbourhood on July 18 by a homeless man. He followed a bad smell into an abandoned building and discovered the suitcase with what appeared to be a human limb protruding, according to local reports.
No signs of struggle
A forensic examination of the body found no obvious injuries or signs of struggle. It is estimated that the woman, said to have been born in Scotland, had been dead for about eight days before she was discovered. Athens police suspect she was lured to the location by a homeless person, authorities told The Times.
