Liverpool face setback in Diomande pursuit
Liverpool have received a major update regarding RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande. The Reds had expressed interest in the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international earlier this summer and were willing to submit an offer. However, Paris Saint-Germain emerged as favourites, and now another club has entered the race.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Diomande has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid this summer. The report also claims he has a similar agreement with PSG, leaving it to the clubs to agree a fee with Leipzig.
Fee stance and Liverpool's transfer plans
Leipzig have made clear they would not accept a fee of €100 million (£85 million). It remains unclear if Real Madrid or PSG can meet that valuation.
Liverpool have already added a forward with Victor Munoz arriving from Osasuna for £34.5 million last month. Munoz was part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad and is on a summer break before linking up with his new teammates.
The club have also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche. Liverpool began pre-season with a 4-2 win over Sunderland in Nashville, with goals from Kieran Morrison, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas.
