Newcastle United have submitted a formal proposal to Osasuna for the transfer of Victor Munoz, leaving the decision in the hands of the La Liga club's sporting director, Braulio Vázquez. Vázquez, a former Deportivo La Coruna forward, is known for his tough negotiation style, but Newcastle's offer is structured to eventually match Munoz's £34.5 million release clause.
Fee Structure and Sell-On Clause
The Magpies are prepared to pay just over £30 million upfront, with an additional £4.5 million in add-ons payable at a later date. However, 50% of those fees must be forwarded to Real Madrid, who inserted a sell-on clause when they sold Munoz to Osasuna. This means Real Madrid must essentially approve any deal, as they own half of the winger's economic rights.
Real Madrid's Buyback Clause
Real Madrid hold a buyback clause for around £6.9 million, but they are not expected to activate it, which could clear the way for Newcastle. If both clubs give the green light, Munoz is believed to be eager to join, having been informed of the salary on offer by his agent. According to Chronicle Live, he is happy with the financial terms.
Sporting Project and Medical Plans
More importantly, Munoz is attracted to Newcastle's sporting project, particularly the prospect of replacing Anthony Gordon, who recently secured a move to Barcelona after impressing on Tyneside. The Magpies are using this as a key selling point this summer.
There are no concerns about conducting a medical during the World Cup, as Newcastle have the resources to send their doctor to the United States. A medical in Tennessee has already been mooted. The club has a history of efficient overseas medicals, having completed Bruno Guimaraes's deal in Brazil in 2022 and Sandro Tonali's in Romania in 2023 during the Under-21 European Championship.
Previous Interest from Sunderland
Munoz was the subject of an enquiry from Sunderland earlier this year, but Osasuna's Braulio Vázquez stated: “We won’t even listen; we’re sticking to the clause. Real Madrid have a three-year buyback clause that has already been agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Victor until the end of the season. Football is very unpredictable.”
Newcastle United fans can expect further updates as the transfer saga develops, with the club working diligently to secure Munoz's signature.
