12Muqam brings unique Uyghur cuisine to Newcastle Restaurant Week for first time
Uyghur restaurant 12Muqam joins Newcastle Restaurant Week

12Muqam, a restaurant named after a traditional Uyghur musical melody, is participating in NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week for the first time this August 3-9. The event, which is the largest yet with 132 restaurants offering special menus at £15, £20, and £25, includes the Stowell Street eatery.

Family-run business offers authentic flavours

Run by Emrain Reshid, 12Muqam serves dishes from the Uyghur community of China's Xinjiang region, distinguishing it from neighbouring Chinese restaurants. Head chef Amanhan, Emrain's mother, hand-makes noodles and slow-cooks meat for signature dishes. Traditional salted milk tea is also on the menu.

Only two Uyghur restaurants in Newcastle

12Muqam is one of only two Uyghur restaurants in Newcastle, the other being Meshrep in Byker. Emrain is eager to introduce new customers to the cuisine, and bookings are already pouring in.
