British lawyers have come under fire from their American colleagues for being "lazy" and having "too much sex at work." The transatlantic row kicked off on Reddit when a US lawyer living in London asked what people really thought of British legal eagles.
American Accusations
One American accused London lawyers of "always sleeping or on vacation," while another branded them "academic rather than practical." Oxbridge graduates came under attack, with one online user saying they are "socially coded to want to appear articulate and intelligent rather than efficient and direct."
In one particularly salacious comment, a user claimed that London lawyers "have sex with other people in the office at a much higher rate than Americans." They pointed to a string of scandals that had rocked UK firms.
British Retaliation
However, the British legal eagles fired back with claims that American legal documents are "an absolute dog's dinner." The American courts also took a battering, with one contributor comparing US bankruptcy courts to a restaurant chain: "The Outback Steakhouse of the American jurisprudential system. No rules, just right."
Meanwhile, British courts were praised for having "real qualified, impartial judges" as opposed to what one poster called America's "overly political bench."
Secret Family Revelations
Previously, one Reddit user shared a startling secret their grandfather had inadvertently revealed, completely upending everything they believed about both him and their father. The user shared this bombshell in a discussion thread where people disclosed secrets they'd stumbled upon by chance.
They explained: "As a child, my grandfather loved to tell us grandchildren uplifting histories about working hard and effort being rewarded. His favourite one was the one where, as a teenager, he would spend all day on the road, going to the big city for supplies that his mom would sell in the village."
However, their grandfather's tales weren't completely honest. They continued: "With age, he started to mistake me with my dad and start reminiscing about all the crazy s*** 'we' did for the mafia."
When pushed for further details, they elaborated: "His current favourite is about bribing cops. There is a bunch of old mobilettes [a type of small moped] that are still collecting dust in the garage. They would be rented for a premium to rich folk children during the summer vacations, and if anything happened with those bikes involved, the cops themselves would quietly take care of everything.
"He admits that they weren't many trouble, everyone knew not to mess with those bikes, at most the dumb teenagers would find the most bizarre places to park them and forgot where they parked them, but it was a great way to maintain friendly ties with both the police and the customers."
