Trabzonspor Aim to Retain Onana After Man United Decision
Trabzonspor Want to Keep Onana After Man United Exit

Trabzonspor are keen to retain Andre Onana after Manchester United informed the Cameroon international that he is not part of their future plans. The 30-year-old goalkeeper has impressed during his loan spell at the Turkish club since arriving in September, most recently helping them reach the Turkish Cup final on Wednesday night.

United's Decision

Manchester United have decided against reintegrating Onana to compete with Senne Lammens next season, despite potentially needing a new goalkeeper if current No. 2 Altay Bayindir departs. The club believes Onana's £120,000-a-week wages and extrovert personality would make it difficult to bench him. United paid Inter Milan £47.2 million for Onana in the summer of 2023 and hope to recoup as much of that fee as possible.

Trabzonspor's Interest

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan expressed his affection for the player, stating, "We love him. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay." The Super Lig side may struggle to afford a permanent transfer but are exploring a loan extension. Other clubs, including Besiktas, have also shown interest in Onana.

Onana has made 102 appearances for United and has two years left on his contract, plus a house near Manchester. While a return for pre-season is possible, United prefer to find him a new club within the next two months.

Wednesday's 2-1 comeback win over Genclerbirligi secured Trabzonspor's place in the Turkish Cup final against Konyaspor next week.
