Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of Andrew Crofts to Roberto De Zerbi's backroom staff, according to Standard Sport. The 42-year-old Welshman, currently an assistant coach at Brighton under Fabian Hurzeler and part of Craig Bellamy's Wales national team setup, is set to reunite with De Zerbi in north London.
Crofts' Role Under De Zerbi
Crofts previously worked under the Italian during his time at Brighton, coaching various academy sides before being promoted to the first-team fold by Hurzeler. A former midfielder, he played for Brighton, Norwich City, and earned 29 international caps for Wales. He is expected to join Andreas Georgson and Bruno Saltor as De Zerbi's assistants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
De Zerbi's Squad Overhaul
De Zerbi, who saved Spurs from a shock Premier League relegation, has already been backed in the transfer window. The club spent a combined £185 million on midfielders Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. Free transfers Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson also arrived, while Jan Paul van Hecke, another Brighton connection, was signed for £52 million.
