Tesco Apologises After Mother Kicked Out for Tie-Back Top

A mother of three has spoken out after being refused entry to a Tesco store in Essex because of her choice of clothing during a heatwave. Alixe Galatis visited the supermarket on June 26 with her children when temperatures reached 37C. She was wearing a black V-neck top that tied at the back.

Security Guard's Intervention

As Galatis approached the Scan as You Shop section, a male security guard told her she could not enter the store because her backless top could be 'untied' by other shoppers, leaving her exposed. Galatis retrieved a gym sweater from her car to cover the tie and was then allowed to shop. She said the guard shook his head with 'disdain' as she left.

Mother's Reaction

Galatis expressed confusion and shock, stating she had been in other shops without issue earlier that day. She shared the experience online, where most people sided with her. She said: 'I will definitely be avoiding Tesco if it comes to another heatwave because I have quite a few tops or dresses that are a halter neck style.'

Tesco's Apology

Tesco said it was 'really sorry' to hear about her experience and admitted it 'should not have happened'. The company vowed to contact Galatis directly to address the matter.
