Sky has announced a major free upgrade for millions of its mobile customers, offering complimentary global roaming in 120 destinations just as the holiday season peaks. The perk is available exclusively to Sky VIP Diamond members—those who have been with Sky for over 15 years.
Who Qualifies for the Free Roaming Upgrade?
Sky confirmed that the free data roaming applies to any current or new Sky Mobile customer who holds Sky VIP Diamond status. This includes all data plans, allowing eligible users to use their UK data, calls, and texts abroad at no extra cost.
The roaming coverage spans 120 destinations worldwide, including the USA, South Africa, Australia, India, and Thailand. According to Sky, this benefit is designed to reward long-standing loyalty.
How It Compares to Other Networks
Most other UK networks, such as EE and Vodafone, charge up to £8 per day for similar roaming access. For example, EE charges £6 per day in the USA or a 7-day pass for £30, while Vodafone also starts at £6 daily. Three's roaming pricing is £5 per day. Alternative eSIM providers like Airola offer data from as little as £3.50 for 3 days (limited to 1GB).
Ben Case, Managing Director of Connectivity at Sky, said: “We’re giving our longest-standing Sky customers free global roaming in 120 destinations with Sky Mobile - it's another way we’re recognising loyalty with rewards that matter. Whether in Chile or China, South Korea or South Africa, Sky VIP Diamond customers will now stay connected at no extra cost.”
How to Check Your Eligibility
Sky advises customers to log into their Sky account to verify their VIP status. Diamond members can activate the roaming benefit immediately, with no additional steps required beyond ensuring their Sky Mobile plan is active.
The move comes as travel demand surges, and Sky positions itself as a competitive alternative to networks that continue to impose daily roaming fees.
