Reece James has expressed his devastation over Marc Cucurella's departure from Chelsea to Real Madrid in a £51.8 million transfer. The Spain international left-back, who spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge, completed his move to the La Liga giants on Monday after Madrid accelerated negotiations last weekend.
James on Cucurella's exit
Speaking to talkSPORT, James said: 'I spoke with him a few days ago. You know, he's obviously an amazing player, one of the best left-backs in the world, for sure. This is football. Players move every few months and I'm devastated to see him go. But I wish him all the best.'
Cucurella, 27, was a top target for Jose Mourinho, and Madrid acted quickly to beat competition from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He is currently with Spain's squad for their World Cup campaign.
Excitement for Xabi Alonso
James also shared his anticipation for working with incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. 'Everyone I've spoken to about him says he's an amazing manager, more known from his playing career. He had an amazing career and I'm excited to work with him,' James added.
