Powerball, the world's biggest lottery game, has officially launched in the United Kingdom, with tickets now on sale and the inaugural draw scheduled for Thursday, July 23. The jackpot starts at a minimum of £12 million and is uncapped, allowing the rolling prize pool to potentially reach £1 billion.
First Draw and Ticket Details
The first draw will take place on Thursday at the Florida Powerball studio. Tickets cost £4 per line and are available online and at physical retail stores. This marks the first time the American jackpot game has been available to play outside the USA.
Draws are held three times a week, and UK players can purchase tickets until 11:55 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Results are announced around 4 AM the following mornings. The current estimated jackpot is approximately $416 million (£311 million).
How to Play and Prizes
To play, Brits must select five main numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. Lucky Dips are also available. UK players receive an exclusive prize of £8 for matching two main numbers, while matching five main numbers guarantees a fixed prize of £1 million.
If the prize pool hits £1 billion, UK winners will share the grand prize paid out over a 30-year period. Allwyn's chief executive Andria Vidler said: "Powerball jackpots can soar into the billions, offering breathtaking sums with the potential to transform lives and communities." She added: "We're encouraging players to get involved when tickets go on sale and we'll be crossing our fingers for our first UK winner."
Impact on National Lottery and Good Causes
Latest figures from Allwyn show total National Lottery sales, including tickets bought in shops, reached £8.1 billion in 2025, up 3.5% on the previous year. Over £1.7 million was generated for good causes such as health, education, arts, sports heritage, and charitable causes, while around £967 million was raised in taxes.
