Emmanuel Petit has named three players Arsenal should sell this summer as Mikel Arteta prepares to defend the Premier League title. The Gunners ended a 22-year wait for the league trophy last season, and the club believes sustained success is achievable as rivals undergo transitions.
Petit's Transfer Advice
Petit, speaking to talkSPORT, urged Arsenal to show Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus the exit door. He advised keeping Leandro Trossard. Arsenal spent £52m to sign Madueke from Chelsea last summer, but Petit doubts he is 'good enough' despite contributing to the title win.
Martinelli and Jesus played lesser roles last season, and Arsenal is open to offers for both. Trossard, 31, has been linked with Besiktas and Premier League clubs.
What Arsenal Needs
Petit said: 'I think it’s easy to know what Arsenal are missing, for me it’s wingers. You need strong, powerful wingers with technical skills. Before bringing new players, they must show some the exit door. For me, Martinelli, Jesus... Madueke isn’t good enough. Trossard I would keep. We definitely need wingers and probably a striker with pace, technical skills, and great movement.'
Arsenal plans to make three or four major signings and sell a similar number to raise funds. The club is also considering offers for other fringe players.
