A survey of 2,000 adults has found that over a third of Brits regularly watch TV shows or films while on the move. The research revealed that 35% routinely watch television programmes and 33% watch films while travelling, while 70% slot entertainment around their schedule rather than the other way round.
Sporting and reality TV moments enjoyed on journeys
Some of this year's most significant sporting television moments have been savoured while travelling, including crucial moments from last season's Premier League action (25%) and the excitement of the World Cup (21%). Popular reality television moments have also been viewed during journeys, with Love Island (18%) and The Traitors (14%) amongst the most frequently watched programmes.
Deliberate saving for trips and flights
The research, commissioned by Samsung to launch the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, found that 33% deliberately save their favourite content for train journeys, while 34% have a backlog of programmes and films queued up for future trips. Meanwhile, 30% save viewing content specifically for flights and holidays.
Evening viewing habits shift due to tiredness
While 47% agree that their evening viewing habits remain important, 39% confess they are often too exhausted in the evening to watch a programme or film from beginning to end. Consequently, they are increasingly watching entertainment throughout the day as well. For 46%, travelling represents one of the few uninterrupted opportunities to properly savour a programme, film or book without the distractions of daily life.
Key features prized for on-the-go entertainment
The research also revealed the features shoppers increasingly prize when enjoying entertainment while out and about. More than three quarters (76%) identified portability as being important, while a further 75% appreciate durability in a device when using it on the move. Having a large screen is also a priority for 73% of respondents, highlighting the rising appetite for immersive viewing experiences away from home. The study from Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which unfolds into an eight-inch main display, found 51% said being able to multitask is important when balancing entertainment with everyday tasks while travelling.
