Newcastle agree £51.5m Manzambi deal, Guimarães not for sale

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Freiburg for the transfer of Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi in a deal worth £51.5 million. The 20-year-old, who has impressed at the ongoing World Cup, is poised to sign a long-term contract at St James' Park once Switzerland's tournament campaign concludes.

Manzambi, a versatile midfielder, has attracted widespread interest following his performances in Qatar. However, the transfer will not be finalized while Switzerland remain in the competition. The player is currently nursing a minor knee injury, and head coach Murat Yakin is uncertain whether he will recover in time for the quarter-final clash against Argentina on Sunday.

Newcastle's stance on Bruno Guimarães

Newcastle have reiterated that they have no intention of selling Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal, despite the Brazil midfielder growing unsettled on Tyneside. The departures of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona have contributed to Guimarães' discontent. The club may offer him a new contract to change the narrative, but if Arsenal submit a bid in the region of £75 million, Newcastle would face a difficult decision. Guimarães, 28, could see his wages almost double at the Emirates, though Arsenal have yet to make a formal offer.

Newcastle have also completed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23 million on a five-year contract. Steur is widely regarded as Ajax's brightest emerging midfield talent since Frenkie de Jong.
