Morrisons Fish and Chips Afternoon Tea Review: £7.50 Each
Morrisons Fish and Chips Afternoon Tea: £7.50 per Person

Morrisons has introduced a unique twist on the classic afternoon tea this summer, offering a fish and chips version for two at its cafes. Priced at £15 for the set, it works out at just £7.50 per person. The supermarket has also launched a separate giant fish and chips option.

Our Visit to the Leigh Store

We visited the Leigh store on Thursday lunchtime, shortly after 12.30pm. The cafe was busier than expected, with many tables still cluttered with used plates and mugs. However, we found a clear table in the corner and settled in.

Ordering the Afternoon Tea

Ordering proved slightly tricky. After confirming availability, we were told there were no mushy peas, but we could choose garden peas or beans instead. The giant fish and chips was also out of stock. The meal is advertised with mushy peas or curry sauce, so we requested one of each, but were informed it should be the same for both. Nevertheless, we received two pots of peas and a jug of sauce, possibly as compensation.

The Food

The afternoon tea arrived on a tiered metal stand, described as a 'supersized spread'. We received more than the promised six fish bites and six scampi. The fish bites were the highlight, with crispy, light golden batter. The scampi was slightly overcooked but fine, while the chips were more like fries than the advertised chunky chips and could have been warmer.

Also included were two slices of pre-spread bread and butter, plus sachets of Heinz tartare sauce. For dessert, there were two traditional fruit scones with jam and clotted cream, though the scones had coarse sugar crystals, likely Morrisons' 'The Best Fruit Scones'. They were tasty with Rodda's clotted cream and Tiptree strawberry jam.

Drinks

The set includes two refillable hot drinks. Our tea and latte would have cost £4.75 on their own, and we each had two cups.

Overall Verdict

Despite some discrepancies from the description, the afternoon tea felt like a treat and was well worth £7.50 each, even without the extra curry sauce. The limited edition Fish & Chip Afternoon Tea and Giant Fish & Chips are available in all 343 Morrisons Cafés nationwide while stocks last.
