Man Utd to Receive £17m Windfall from Mason Greenwood's Fenerbahce Move
Man Utd to Get £17m from Greenwood's Fenerbahce Transfer

Manchester United are poised to receive a substantial eight-figure windfall from Mason Greenwood's impending transfer to Fenerbahce, providing Michael Carrick with additional funds for summer reinforcements. The former United forward is closing in on a £34.1m move to the Turkish club, with Marseille set to pass on a significant portion of the fee to Old Trafford due to a sell-on clause inserted in the 2024 transfer agreement.

Greenwood's Transfer to Fenerbahce Nears Completion

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Fenerbahce have raised their bid and incorporated add-ons to bring the package close to Marseille's £42m asking price. The deal is expected to be completed after prolonged negotiations between the two clubs. Greenwood, who spent the 2025/26 season at Marseille, scored 26 goals and registered 11 assists in all competitions, attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

United sold Greenwood to Marseille for £26.6m in 2024 after determining he could no longer continue at the club. The academy product had been suspended by United when he faced charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour in 2022. The forward denied the charges, which were subsequently dropped, but found himself marginalised at Old Trafford before departing for Marseille following a loan spell at Getafe.

Sell-On Clause Delivers £17m Boost

United are believed to have included a sell-on clause in their arrangement with Marseille, securing them up to 50 per cent of any future transfer fee. That would deliver them a significant £17m windfall for their transfer budget, which will prove useful after paying £48m up front to Chelsea for Andrey Santos. The Brazilian midfielder is set to complete his £50m move to Old Trafford this summer, with the 22-year-old due to undergo a medical before signing a long-term deal.

Carrick is expected to forge a formidable midfield partnership, with Santos on track to line up alongside Ederson. The announcement is anticipated within days following Brazil's exit from the World Cup, while medical examinations are being finalised.

Greenwood's Future Decided by Marseille

While Greenwood had previously suggested he was keen to remain with the French side, it seems the club have now made the decision for him. Speaking after earning a place in Ligue 1's team of the season, he said: "This season has sometimes been difficult collectively, especially in recent months, but individually, I think I've had a good season. There are some incredible players in this team of the year, so it's nice to receive this trophy. Ligue 1 is a wonderful league. We play incredible matches and, for me, it's one of the best leagues I've played in. I hope I can stay."
