Manchester United have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur prospect Tynan Thompson for an initial £4m, with a further £4m in potential add-ons. The 18-year-old winger, who was named in Champions League matchday squads for Spurs last season, will start with United's U21s but could push for first-team involvement. The deal includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
Rashford's return to training
Marcus Rashford is open to rejoining Manchester United training at the end of his summer break after winning a bronze medal at the World Cup. The forward has not played for United since December 2024, and his future seemed uncertain after Barcelona opted not to trigger their £26m buy option at the end of his loan deal. A second clause allowing clubs to sign Rashford for £40m also expired this month.
According to BBC Sport, Rashford, who has two years left on his contract, is "relaxed" about linking back up with the United squad. The 28-year-old is said to have a more positive dynamic with new boss Michael Carrick compared to his "confrontational relationship" with former manager Ruben Amorim. During his loan at Barcelona, Rashford recorded 14 goals and 14 assists last season, helping the club win La Liga.
After completing his World Cup duties, Rashford wrote on social media: "Keep believing in us. Our time will come. Now it's time for me to rest, reflect, spend some quality time with family and friends, and come back a better version of myself."
United's midfield rebuild
United have begun rebuilding their midfield after losing Casemiro at the end of last season. Andrey Santos signed from Chelsea before the club completed a move for Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans. Former Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow has also arrived as experienced backup to Senne Lammens. The club have also shown a commitment to long-term development by signing Thompson.
