Manchester United have agreed a £48 million deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, with an additional £2 million in realistic add-ons. Chelsea have also secured a 10% sell-on clause. The 22-year-old Brazilian is set for a medical alongside fellow Brazilian Ederson, who is finalising a £35 million move from Atalanta.
Santos Deal Provides Midfield Boost
Santos, who has made 28 Premier League appearances including a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, struggled to break into Chelsea's starting XI behind captain Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. The signing addresses United's midfield depth after Casemiro's exit and Manuel Ugarte's long-term absence. Manager Michael Carrick had earlier missed out on primary target Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham for £85 million.
Real Madrid U-turn on Tchouameni
United's pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni has received a boost as Real Madrid reportedly soften their stance. According to Athletic editor Dean Jones via FlashScore, Madrid are 'opening up' to the idea of selling the 26-year-old French midfielder, priced at £85 million. Jones suggested that if Madrid inform Tchouameni his services are no longer needed, he would be open to a move to Old Trafford. Madrid have been active this summer, signing Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Denzel Dumfries.
World Cup Star Ryerson on Radar
United have also held 'renewed contact' with representatives of Borussia Dortmund full-back Julian Ryerson, according to German publication BILD. The 28-year-old Norwegian has impressed at the World Cup, with Norway set to face England in the quarter-finals. Ryerson has been a key figure for Dortmund since joining in 2023, and Carrick aims to enhance squad depth for United's Champions League return.
