Man United: New Midfield Target Emerges as Ederson Nears Medical

Manchester United are accelerating their midfield overhaul, with three signings expected in the coming weeks. The club have already reached agreements for two players, and one is preparing for a second medical examination.

Manu Kone Emerges as Third Midfield Target

Despite reportedly agreeing deals for Atalanta's Ederson and Chelsea's Andrey Santos worth a combined £85 million, United are not stopping there. According to TEAMtalk, the club are also keen on France international Manu Kone, who impressed at the World Cup. The 25-year-old currently plays for Roma, who are prepared to consider offers around £50 million.

Kone was not a primary target earlier in the summer, but high asking prices for Premier League midfielders like Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott, and Adam Wharton, combined with his World Cup performances, have shifted United's focus. Kone initially joined Roma on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2024 before a permanent £15 million transfer in 2025. If Roma receive £50 million, they will more than triple their investment after one full Serie A season.

Ederson Set for Second Medical

Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson is expected to undergo a second medical with United's medical staff in the coming days, according to Fabrizio Romano. United agreed a deal worth £35 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons for the 27-year-old in June, but the announcement was delayed due to his World Cup involvement.

Now that Brazil have been eliminated, Ederson can complete the transfer formalities. He reportedly completed an initial medical assessment in the United States while on international duty and will now undergo the second stage in the UK. He is also reported to have agreed a four-year contract at Old Trafford and could become the 11th Brazilian to represent United, unless Andrey Santos arrives first.
