Lloyds and Halifax Announce 79 More Bank Closures Including Three in Greater Manchester

Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to close more branches over the coming year. As part of its latest announcement, the banking group said it will be closing 79 Lloyds and Halifax branches, including three sites across Greater Manchester.

The latest round of closures will impact 31 Lloyds Bank branches and 48 Halifax sites across the UK, the Mirror reports. Across Greater Manchester, this will impact the Rochdale Lloyds branch as well as Halifax branches in Cheetham Hill and Leigh.

This adds to the 95 branch closures which were announced by the group earlier this year. This included Lloyds' Altrincham branch as well as Halifax branches in Ashton-under-Lyne and Didsbury.

The banking group said more than three-quarters of the branches due to close are situated within one mile of another Lloyds Banking Group site, while 95% have an alternative branch within five miles.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesman said: "With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, alongside local banking options like our Community Bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, plus our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service, we offer our customers more choice and convenience than ever before."
