Liverpool's Stephenson Set for £700k Bolton Move

Liverpool midfielder Luca Stephenson is on the verge of a permanent move to Championship side Bolton Wanderers for a fee of around £700,000. The 22-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, is in the final year of his Liverpool contract and has been given permission to leave.

Loan Spell at Dundee United

Stephenson made 67 appearances for Dundee United over two years, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists, predominantly playing as a right wing-back. His most recent campaign was cut short due to injury, but he had been a regular for the Scottish side. Before his time in Scotland, he had a loan spell at League Two side Barrow in the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool Academy Background

Stephenson joined Liverpool's Academy from Sunderland at under-15 level and went on to captain the U18s. He also featured in the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy. Although he was involved with the senior Reds team during the last two pre-seasons, he never made a competitive senior appearance.

Bolton's Promotion and Manager

Bolton Wanderers, managed by former Everton midfielder Steven Schumacher, secured promotion to the Championship last season by winning the League One play-offs, defeating Stockport County 4-1 in the Wembley final. Stephenson is expected to bolster their midfield options as they prepare for life in the second tier.

The transfer is expected to be completed shortly, with Stephenson undergoing a medical and finalizing personal terms.
