Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Alejandro Rosalen as their new first-team goalkeeping coach, the latest addition to Andoni Iraola's backroom staff. Rosalen replaces Xavi Valero, who returned to the club for a second spell last season after initially working under Rafael Benitez in the late 2000s.
Rosalen's Extensive Coaching Background
Rosalen brings a wealth of experience to Anfield, having spent five years at Napoli where he was part of the coaching team that guided the Serie A side to two league titles in 2023 and 2025. The 49-year-old Spaniard began his coaching career at Valencia's Academy, where he spent eight years, before an additional eight years with Fiorentina in Italy. He also had a season with Hungarian club Videoton.
Iraola's Backroom Staff Takes Shape
Rosalen's arrival is the latest change to Liverpool's coaching staff following Iraola's appointment as head coach last month, replacing the sacked Arne Slot. Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper have followed Iraola from Bournemouth as first-team coaches, while Pablo de la Torre has joined as an assistant coach and Tom Webber as first-team tactical analyst. All three worked with Iraola during his three-year tenure at Bournemouth.
According to Liverpool's official announcement, the club is pleased to welcome Rosalen and believes his experience will be invaluable in developing the goalkeeping department.
