Leeds United have rekindled their interest in Sporting midfielder Hidemasa Morita. The Japan international is understood to be willing to commit to the move once Leeds secure their Premier League status.
Morita's Background and Current Form
Morita was a target for the Elland Road club last summer ahead of their return to the top flight, but he opted to see out the final year of his contract in Portugal. The 30-year-old has been in good form for the season's run-in, prompting calls from Sporting supporters for him to be given a new contract.
Leeds see him as someone who can bolster their midfield and provide experienced competition for Ethan Ampadu in their engine room. He has 40 caps for Japan and has scored six goals.
Leeds Also Monitor Union Berlin Defender Danilho Doekhi
Leeds are also still in the mix for Union Berlin centre back Danilho Doekhi. The Dutch defender has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga and will be a free agent this summer. Leeds made enquiries earlier this year for the former Netherlands Under 21 international and remain in the hunt for Doekhi.
The 27-year-old is attracting interest from other clubs, including Borussia Dortmund. He is the nephew of former Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde.
Leeds' Current Premier League Position
Leeds are six points ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League with four games left to play and face already relegated Burnley on Friday. They travel to Spurs for a crunch game on May 11 before finishing the season at West Ham, who are also fighting for survival.
