Jarrod Bowen Stays at West Ham: Man Utd Transfer Ruled Out
Jarrod Bowen Stays at West Ham, Man Utd Transfer Off

Jarrod Bowen has committed his immediate future to West Ham United, ending speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United this summer. The 29-year-old winger, who captained the Hammers last season, has signed revised terms with the club following their relegation to the Championship.

Decision Announced After Relegation

West Ham were unable to avoid the drop last season, finishing in the bottom three. Despite being one of the Premier League's standout forwards, Bowen faced an uncertain future. Manchester United were among several top-flight clubs credited with an interest, believing a bargain deal might be possible due to West Ham's financial situation.

However, the London club have already banked £85 million from the sale of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur, easing any pressure to sell key assets. The club released a video featuring Bowen, where he confirmed his desire to stay and lead the charge back to the Premier League.

Bowen's Statement

“For me, it was only right to speak when the time's right in circumstances like this, then it's back to talking about football,” Bowen said. “I flew out to Prague in the Czech Republic to meet Daniel [Kretinsky] and Jiri [Svarc] and the ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the Club wants to move in, it interests me a lot. It didn't take a lot for me, because this Club means a lot to me.”

He added: “I did an interview after the [Leeds United] game and said my vision is to get this Club back in the Premier League. Sometimes you think it falls on deaf ears and people say 'he's just saying that'. There have been things written and different things said and you have to look at it and bite your tongue sometimes. But when I say something, I don't hide away from it. For me, the main thing is to get this club back into the Premier League and speak to people in the club about what we want to do moving forward as a club for the better of the club. It was a no-brainer for me to be here and the vision is clear, it's the Premier League.”

Revised Contract Terms

According to a report from The Athletic, Bowen has signed revised terms with West Ham. While his new agreement does not extend beyond the existing 2030 end date, it ensures the forward will remain at the London Stadium this summer. Consequently, a summer switch to Manchester United has been ruled out.

The Red Devils had been monitoring Bowen as a potential addition to their squad. They may still complete the signing of another West Ham winger this summer, having shown interest in Dutch international Crysencio Summerville, who has returned from the World Cup. Roma are also among the clubs chasing the former Leeds forward.

United's Summer Business

Manchester United have brought in three players so far this summer: midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow. The club's transfer activity continues as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season.
