ITVX Crime Drama Unforgotten Hailed as Rival to Breaking Bad

An ITVX crime drama series has been hailed by viewers as being on par with television greats like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men. The show is available to watch for free on ITVX, offering a compelling binge-watching option without any subscription cost.

Viewers Compare ITVX Drama to TV Giants

According to television enthusiasts on social media, a relatively obscure series has impressed fans of enormously popular programmes. The series surfaced on Reddit after a user on the TV Suggestions forum sought recommendations for “the next show to binge” for himself and his wife. He explained that the pair take turns selecting programmes, and it is currently his choice, yet he has found himself completely stumped on what to put forward.

To assist fellow commenters, he listed both his and his wife’s all-time top five television programmes. His personal favourites were Mr Robot, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Leftovers, and Better Call Saul, while his wife’s were The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Mad Men, Succession, and Mr Robot.

Among the suggestions put forward for a couple with such acclaimed titles in their top five was the ITVX series Unforgotten. After one commenter recommended it, others chimed in to confirm it ranked amongst their favourites, wholeheartedly agreeing the couple ought to give it a go.

One person said: “Unforgotten. British detective series where they work cold cases.” To which someone replied: “Wonderful show. A new season should be out soon.” And another responded: “Our favourite show.”

About Unforgotten

Unforgotten is by no means a newcomer, having first broadcast in 2015, but it has remained a firm favourite throughout the past decade. All six seasons released to date are available to stream on ITVX, offering plenty of material to get stuck into. Furthermore, the drama has been commissioned for a seventh series, meaning there is even more to look forward to once you have worked your way through the back catalogue.

The crime drama follows a team of London detectives headed by DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) across seasons one to four, DCI Jessie James (Sinead Keenan) in seasons five and six, and DCI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) as they piece together cold cases. Each six-episode series tackles a fresh case, meaning that while there are currently six seasons available, they are not heavily interlinked, and viewers can comfortably watch them one series at a time, much like a collection of standalone mini-series.

Critical Acclaim

The show has garnered widespread critical acclaim, securing a nomination for Best Drama Series at the British Academy Television Awards in 2022, and claiming a Best Supporting Actor award for Tom Courtenay at the same ceremony in 2016. It boasts a near-flawless 91 per cent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience score close behind at 76 per cent.
