Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs vying to sign Germany World Cup star Felix Nmecha. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is already attracting significant attention in the USA, though he has been linked with United before.
He got Germany off the mark in their 7-1 thrashing of Curacao, curling a first-time, right-footed effort into the top corner from 20 yards against the Caribbean outfit. He also caught the eye with his box-to-box qualities and capacity to break up counter-attacks.
Nmecha's Background
Nmecha, 25, progressed through the academy at Manchester City before moving to Wolfsburg in 2021 following a successful loan spell at Anderlecht. Reports from Germany are now suggesting he could return to Manchester with United, who regard him as a possible successor to Casemiro.
Interest from Other Clubs
Sky Sports Deutschland has reported that United are among several clubs pursuing his signature. Intriguingly, local rivals and his former employers City have also been linked with a move. Furthermore, Real Madrid are also thought to be monitoring the situation with returning boss Jose Mourinho understood to be keen on Nmecha.
Contract and Release Clause
However, he will not be available on the cheap. Dortmund are understood to be relaxed about his future, having tied him down to a contract until 2030. Additionally, a release clause within that agreement, which would permit his departure should a bid of £61m be tabled, only becomes active in the summer of 2027. The Bundesliga giants are willing to allow him to depart during that window rather than this summer.
Agent's Comments
Furthermore, Nmecha's representative also seemed to indicate the player will not be on the move imminently. Speaking recently to German publication Bild, his agent Tobi Alabi said: "Felix still has two years left on his contract, and we fully respect that. Borussia Dortmund have played an important role in his development. He is grateful for the trust and the platform the club have given him. The player is developing from season to season, and when a player performs well, there is naturally always interest and questions about his future. That's part of top-level football and reflects the progress he has made. Right now, the focus is very clear: Felix is determined to give everything for Borussia Dortmund, to fight for the club and to help the team achieve its goals."
United's Other Transfer Activity
United are close to finalising the capture of Brazil international and Atalanta midfielder Ederson for £39m. He is anticipated to complete a medical while on World Cup duty with his country.
