Ben Godfrey is close to a loan move to Rangers, his fourth temporary spell since leaving Everton, which will again prevent the Blues from benefiting from a sell-on clause inserted in his transfer to Atalanta.
Godfrey's loan history
The defender was sold to Atalanta in an £11m deal two years ago but has struggled to secure a regular place in Bergamo. Over the past two seasons, he has been loaned to Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, and most recently Brondby in Denmark.
Rangers move and reunion with Chermiti
Now the 28-year-old is closing on another temporary move, this time to Scottish side Rangers. If completed, he would link up with former Everton teammate Youssef Chermiti at Ibrox.
Financial impact on Everton
Everton would miss out on a potential financial boost from the sell-on clause in Godfrey's Atalanta deal. The club has already benefited from such a clause this summer, pocketing 15% of the profit from Newcastle United's sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3m, netting around £3.6m.
