Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has endorsed Yan Diomande as the 'perfect' signing to restore the dynamism lost since Luis Diaz's departure. The 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger has emerged as Liverpool's chief transfer target, with the club reportedly willing to bid up to £86 million.
Diomande's Rise and Liverpool's Need
Diomande impressed in his debut season at Leipzig and started strongly for Ivory Coast at the World Cup. Liverpool struggled for firepower last season after selling Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5 million, where he scored 26 goals and provided 23 assists in 51 games. The Reds also lost Mohamed Salah, compounding their attacking issues.
Leipzig are reluctant to sell and would only consider a fee of around £112 million (€130 million) this summer. However, Crouch believes Diomande's qualities make him an ideal fit.
Crouch's Verdict
“I know they’re asking for more money, but he looks like a real player,” Crouch told Paddy Power. “Losing that dynamism that Luis Diaz gave Liverpool was a real blow. Now you’ve lost Salah as well. I think he’s good enough to play as an attacking winger or as a traditional wide midfielder.”
Crouch added: “There were shouts last season of Liverpool playing Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike together up top. Diomande’s a player that can make that work. If it’s a dynamic, direct player that Liverpool want, I think he’s perfect for Liverpool. I really do.”
Transfer Battle Ahead
Liverpool face competition for Diomande, who is also attracting interest from other top European clubs. The Reds' pursuit underscores their need to rejuvenate an attack that relied heavily on Diaz and Salah in previous seasons. Diomande's direct style and versatility could provide the spark Liverpool require.
