Chelsea are preparing a final, substantial offer to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who is increasingly likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Bournemouth have already turned down a £64m bid from Chelsea earlier in the transfer window and remain adamant that Scott is not for sale. However, Chelsea are determined to test their resolve again, with the 23-year-old identified as the club's primary target to fill the void left by Fernandez.
Scott the top target despite Camavinga interest
Chelsea have also considered Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, but they have pursued Scott throughout the summer and are eager to secure his signature. Bournemouth have insisted they will not sanction any further sales, and reversing that stance for one player could provoke a backlash from other clubs.
Manchester City are targeting Fernandez and are lining up a last-ditch bid for the Argentina international. Chelsea are demanding £120m and have made it clear they want a replacement in place before agreeing to any deal.
City ready to meet valuation
City are believed to be prepared to meet Chelsea's valuation and are aware that Fernandez is keen on a reunion with former boss Enzo Maresca, under whom he enjoyed success at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are also pursuing a cut-price deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who has been offered to the Blues. Villa are ready to offload the World Cup-winning keeper, and he is open to moving to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Scott's pedigree and Bournemouth's stance
Scott is regarded as one of English football's top prospects and was part of England's pre-World Cup training group in the United States. The former Bristol City player has previously turned down a new contract, signalling his openness to a move this summer.
Bournemouth value Scott highly, and in a competitive market it would take a significant effort from Chelsea to secure his transfer at this late stage. Nevertheless, Chelsea know Fernandez is eager to join City and embrace a fresh challenge with Maresca.
