Celtic have been told they require as many as four signings before the next pre-season clash with Middlesbrough to give the club a huge lift, according to former player Charlie Mulgrew. The Glasgow giants have made just one signing so far this summer, with Camilo Duran arriving for £6 million and scoring on his debut in a 4-1 friendly defeat to Sporting.
Mulgrew's transfer masterplan
Charlie Mulgrew reckons there is plenty to do before Saturday and insisted that out-of-contract Kelechi Iheanacho and former loanee Marcelo Saracchi should be joined by two more recruits urgently. He told The Sunday Post: "Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has re-signed and his experience will be invaluable over the course of the campaign. He has a hunger to do well for Celtic and wants to be involved in as many games as he can."
"Camilo Duran has signed and the transfer fee is a chunky one. The homework on the player has clearly been done and he arrives with a pedigree of scoring goals in the Champions League. I like the look of him and have been impressed with what he's had to say. I've a feeling he can be a star at the top end of the pitch."
Iheanacho and Saracchi returns
Mulgrew added: "Iheanacho has also been lined up to return and he is a perfect fit for Celtic. He was terrific in the last two months of the season. The same applies to Saracchi. He was brilliant in the final league game of the season against Hearts. He had a desire to make an impact and drove the team on in that final 20 minutes to make things happen. He more than played his part in the title success."
"If these deals can get over the line and also a couple of new faces in this week [before Middlesbrough], it will give everyone a huge lift."
Kasper Dolberg interest revived
Reports in Denmark suggest that interest in Kasper Dolberg has been revived, just a year after Ajax secured a £10 million deal in the final hours of last summer's window and saw off Celtic. But Dolberg started just 12 times last term and spent most of the campaign playing second fiddle to Dutch veteran Wout Weghorst, netting five goals.
Dutch football expert and former Netherlands star Rafael van der Vaart has pitched the player to potential suitors, telling Tipsbladet: "My feeling with him has always been that his level depends on what mood he wakes up in. Sometimes he feels like he needs to show that he's the best striker, and he does, but then he decides to sleep again for 10 games. That's the type of guy he is. But I actually really like him as a striker, and he has a lot of quality."
However, he reckons that a move back to Midtjylland could jump start his career: "For me, it's about Kasper Dolberg playing and being happy. If it makes him happy, I think he should move to FC Midtjylland."
