Nicolas Jackson Joins Bayern Munich on Loan After Chelsea Standoff

Nicolas Jackson has completed a loan move to Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions and Chelsea resolved a tense standoff. The Senegal international, who had flown to Germany over the weekend, refused to return to London when Chelsea initially pulled the plug on the deal due to concerns over attacking cover following Liam Delap's hamstring injury.

Jackson's representatives worked to resurrect negotiations, and an agreement was reached on Monday afternoon. The deal includes a €16.5m loan fee paid in one instalment, with a conditional obligation to buy for €65m (£56.2m). The obligation will be triggered if Jackson makes a certain number of appearances for Vincent Kompany's side this season.

The 24-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea after the arrivals of Delap and João Pedro. He was also a potential target for Newcastle after they accepted Liverpool's offer for Alexander Isak, but that option closed when Newcastle agreed to sign Brentford's Yoane Wissa on Monday morning.

Chelsea, who were hopeful of a permanent sale, recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to provide cover up front and completed a loan deal for Brighton's Facundo Buonanotte. They did not pursue interest in Barcelona's Fermín López.

Meanwhile, attempts to find buyers for Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi proved difficult. Chilwell agreed a permanent move to Strasbourg on a two-year deal, but West Ham could not agree a loan for Disasi, and Sterling remained in limbo with two years left on a contract worth over £325,000 a week.
