Arne Engels to Decide Celtic Future Before Pre-Season

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels is set to decide his future before returning for pre-season training, according to reports from Belgian outlet Voetbal Krant. The 22-year-old Belgium international has attracted interest from at least seven clubs across Europe, just months after Celtic rejected a £25 million bid from Nottingham Forest in the winter transfer window.

Interest from Premier League and European Giants

Sources in Engels' homeland have told Record Sport that the playmaker has switched agents as he looks to take the next step in his career. Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, and Fulham have all shown interest. In Italy, Lazio emerged as a suitor last month, while Milan and Napoli are also reportedly considering an approach. German giants Borussia Dortmund have scouted Engels as well.

According to Voetbal Krant, Engels is expected to make a decision before returning to pre-season training. Some Celtic players are due back on June 26, but it remains unclear if Engels will be among them. International players, even those not involved in the World Cup, are expected to return later. Engels was not called up for the tournament and has not been capped since 2024, when he started Belgium's Nations League defeat to Israel.

Engels Non-Committal After Double Win

After Celtic's Scottish Cup victory sealed a domestic double, Engels was non-committal about his future. He said: "Yeah we will see. I still have a contract so we will see what happens. Firstly, I want to thank all the fans. They are just amazing. They helped us throughout all the season and to be there they have helped us to get the double. In the end we will see what happens in the summer."

He added: "I am really happy here at Celtic. It's an unbelievable club. I'm really proud to represent Celtic."

Seven Clubs Battle for Mega Money Deal

Engels, a four-time Belgium cap, joined Celtic from Augsburg in 2023 and has developed into a key playmaker. The Scottish champions are under pressure to secure a significant fee, with the rejected £25 million bid indicating their valuation. The 22-year-old's contract at Celtic Park runs until 2028, giving the club leverage in negotiations.

As pre-season approaches, Engels' decision will be closely watched by fans and suitors alike. The midfielder's next move could be one of the biggest transfers of the summer window.
