Manchester United completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos on Monday for an initial £48m, with a further £2m in add-ons. The 22-year-old Brazilian has signed a five-year contract and could make his debut in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Wrexham.
Fan Verdict on Santos Transfer
Following the announcement, MEN Sport conducted a poll asking Manchester United fans whether they were happy with the transfer. Out of 4,041 votes, 62% answered yes, while 18% expressed approval but felt the club had overpaid. The remaining 20% were unhappy with the deal.
Santos made only 27 Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring once. Despite limited game time, the majority of fans see potential in the young midfielder.
Triple Arrival at Old Trafford
Santos's signing was part of a triple arrival at Manchester United. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow joined as a free agent after his Leeds United contract expired, and midfielder Youri Tielemans arrived from Aston Villa for £35m.
Santos's Ambition and Carrick Influence
Speaking after signing, Santos said: "Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented. As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick. He is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams."
He added: "Everybody told me about how ambitious the club is and the amazing environment that has been created here. I know just how strong the squad is and I can not wait to fight together to compete for the biggest trophies."
Potential Debut Against Wrexham
The new signing could make his first appearance for United on Saturday when they face Wrexham in their first pre-season fixture of the summer. Fans will be eager to see how Santos fits into Erik ten Hag's plans.
