Television gardener Alan Titchmarsh has purchased his new £2.6 million Surrey home from an Omaze winner who acquired the keys after buying a £10 raffle ticket. Mr Titchmarsh, 77, and his wife Alison relocated to the luxury five-bedroom property last November, having downsized from their grand manor house where they resided for over two decades.
From Omaze Prize to Private Sale
The couple bought the property from winner Rachael Reid to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. Ms Reid, 55, and her husband Darren, 57, won the house near Farnham in 2024. They initially enjoyed their new residence, complete with an indoor heated swimming pool, before deciding to sell and return to Scotland to be with family.
Ms Reid, a childcare worker from Inverness, remarked that the sale would 'change everything for the entire family'. She added: 'I still can't believe it really happened to us - winning a multimillion pound house in Surrey has changed our lives forever. We've really enjoyed spending time at the house - it's been magical and the whole family has loved it.'
Details of the Property
The recently renovated property features a detached pool house with a shower, gym, and sauna. It includes a large entrance hallway leading to a drawing room with a vaulted ceiling overlooking the back garden. The kitchen and dining area boast oak flooring, an island with a breakfast bar, and fitted Siemens appliances. The single-storey home sits on 1.4 acres of secluded grounds, with an outdoor kitchen, landscaped gardens, and a wooded area. The indoor heated swimming pool measures 32 feet in its own outbuilding.
The house was initially listed for just under £3 million but is believed to have sold to the Titchmarshes for £2.6 million. Speaking to House Beautiful last month, Mr Titchmarsh said: 'The house is wonderfully modern and completely different from the Georgian farmhouse where we were before. It's a single-storey dwelling that's quite long, but we're refusing to use the B-word because we have five steps! It's a different way of life and quite exciting. It's liberating.'
Former Home for Sale
The gardener's former home, a Grade II-listed Georgian house built in 1690, was listed for just under £4 million but has since been reduced to £3.5 million. The property, which was home to the couple for 23 years, sits on four acres and features five bedrooms, three reception rooms, a wine cellar, and several outbuildings including a 42-foot barn. Listing agent Tara Boulton, associate director of Savills Country House Department, described it as 'a very pretty Grade II-listed Georgian house, situated at the edge of the popular village surrounded by open farmland. It has wonderful outbuildings with a huge amount of space.'
