£100m Spurs Deal for Tonali Could Unlock Man City's Trafford Transfer
£100m Tonali Deal May Enable Man City Trafford Sale

Manchester City are close to finalising a £116m deal for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, but the club's summer business under Enzo Maresca is far from over. The England international's World Cup participation has delayed the official announcement, but City expect the 23-year-old to join next season.

Anderson is the first signing to fill the gap left by Bernardo Silva, but further midfield additions are likely, especially with Rodri's future uncertain. City have a watchlist of targets, including Newcastle's Sandro Tonali.

Tottenham's £100m Move for Tonali

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a £100m fee with Newcastle United for midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports. The 26-year-old Italy international flourished at St James' Park after a tough start, but Newcastle's failure to qualify for the Champions League made keeping him difficult.

Spurs had previously shown interest in Tonali last month, but their £85m deal for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes seemed to stall that move. However, they have now agreed a £100m fee, sending shockwaves through the Premier League.

For Manchester City, this means Tonali is no longer a realistic target. However, the deal could pave the way for another transfer.

Newcastle's Interest in James Trafford

Newcastle are in the market for a goalkeeper after Aaron Ramsdale left St James' Park. They previously targeted James Trafford last year to replace Nick Pope, but City intervened and brought Trafford back to the Etihad.

Trafford, 23, became City's second-choice goalkeeper after Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite impressive performances in domestic cups and a place in England's World Cup squad, Trafford wants to be a No.1 goalkeeper.

City's Strong Position

Enzo Maresca could reinstate Trafford as first choice, but Donnarumma is the favourite to keep the starting spot. If Trafford remains second choice, he will consider his options, and Newcastle are once again interested.

With the £100m from Tonali's sale, Newcastle have increased spending power. They have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, and Tonali's departure strengthens their financial position. However, City are in a strong negotiating position.

Trafford is focused on the World Cup and has four years remaining on his contract. City can hold out for their desired asking price and play hardball, knowing Newcastle have the funds. Missing out on Tonali is a blow, but City have the leverage to secure a favourable deal for Trafford.
