UK weather maps show 2C chill as Met Office issues snow verdict

UK weather maps have turned icy blue for a 2C chill as the Met Office issues its verdict on snow. The nation can expect chilling conditions in just a few days as temperatures are expected to plummet by Thursday. At 6am, many Brits will wake up to cool conditions on October 8.

Coldest regions in Scotland

A large part of central and eastern Scotland, as well as northeastern Scotland, will be hit by the fresh air. Moray and Aberdeenshire and parts of Perthshire and Angus are expected to be 2C, according to the WXCharts weather maps, using MetDesk data.

In England, temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer, however only slightly. Areas in northern England will be as low as 3C, with some parts climbing up to 6C. In the south, these temperatures sit at around 7C. The south west is forecast to be the warmest part of the nation at 10C in the morning.

Afternoon temperature rise

Elsewhere, in Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland, temperatures are generally around 5–8C. As the day continues into the afternoon, the cold temperatures begin to slightly rise. However, a large part of Scotland will remain between 2-4C. The 2C recording according to the maps are concentrated particularly across eastern/northeastern Scotland.

In northern England, by 12pm most areas will sit between 4-6C. But, further north, some areas will remain at 2-3C, including Cumberland. London is expected to be 7C, with the majority of the Midlands staying at 6C. Wales and Ireland remain considerably milder, at around 5-8C.

Met Office forecast

The current Met Office forecast suggests that the UK will turn colder on Thursday but does not point towards a chance of snow. Instead, the forecaster stated that there may be some showers throughout the day.

The forecast says: "Turning cooler across the UK. Dry, bright and fresh for most on Thursday."

Again in Scotland, Met Office's weather maps feature rain symbols but there is no indication of snowfall despite the chilling conditions.
