New weather maps from WXCharts.com suggest that a spell of warm weather could reach the UK on Wednesday, 26 August, with temperatures peaking at 28C. The south and south east of England are set to be the warmest areas, but temperatures are also expected to rise in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Warmth builds from Monday
The warm weather is due to develop from Monday, when it looks a pleasant day, ranging between 21C and 23C across the majority of England and Wales, and around 18-19C in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Up to 24C are expected in Northumberland since the weather front is focused on the east coast.
A separate forecast from the Met Office, covering the period including Wednesday, 26 August, says the weather will be mostly dry with sunny spells from Sunday to Monday. It is also likely to turn increasingly cloudy from the south later with showers, and an increasing risk of thunderstorms into Tuesday.
Long-range forecast
The Met Office's long-range forecast predicts that from Wednesday, temperatures are likely to be near average, though some short-lived warm or hot spells are possible, especially in the south. Showers or longer spells of rain are still possible across many parts of the UK, the forecaster also says.
