Lewis Hall sat out England's 3-2 loss to Spain at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League after suffering what Thomas Tuchel described as an "injury scare" during training. The Three Lions boss confirmed the left-back missed the start of the autumn training camp, with The FA calling it a "minor issue" and a muscle problem believed to have kept him out of contention.
Tuchel explains Hall's absence
Speaking after the defeat to Spain, Tuchel said: "He missed some training sessions with a bit of an injury scare Lewis Hall. That is why I was a bit hesitant to put him out there today. He is an option, he trained well at the end of the week but he was out of training at the start, we didn't want to take any risk because there was high speed running to do and defending against Lamine Yamal."
The England boss also made it clear he did not want to bring Hall on in the latter stages, even as Nico O'Reilly struggled with cramp. Tuchel added: "I did not want to risk it. He is always in our discussions in the left-back position, he plays left-back at his club, Nico plays in centre midfield. Lewis' situation he will fight for his place and get his first matches, there are still a few matches to go."
Hall's response and future prospects
Hall did not speak to reporters as he left Wembley but took part in extra training after the game in the capital. Given O'Reilly's poor performance against the World Cup winners, Hall is expected to be an easy choice for the clash with Czechia on Tuesday in Prague if he is declared fit.
