Royal Mail warns 139 postcode areas of delivery disruptions today

Royal Mail has issued a delivery update naming the areas most impacted by delays today, with 139 postcode areas affected across the UK.

Areas affected by delays

As of Tuesday, August 17, there are delays across 139 postcode areas including Bedford, Chester, Gosforth, Heswall, Milton Keynes and Swindon. Other affected areas include Cambridge, Bristol, Carmarthen, Wolverhampton and Llangefni.

Royal Mail said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week."

Reasons for disruption

"In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers," the company added.

"We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."

Leeds and Manchester mail centres affected

There has also been disruption at the Leeds and Manchester mail centres. Some mail posted yesterday in the BD, HD, HG, HX, LS and WF postcode areas of Leeds are due for delivery today in other parts of the UK. In Manchester, some mail posted in the BL, M, OL and SK postcode areas are due for delivery today in other parts of the UK.

Dog safety plea

Royal Mail has previously urged households to take action so post won't be suspended. Thousands of postal workers were attacked by dogs over the past year, with some even suffering life-changing injuries.

As a result, Royal Mail has issued a plea: "Please help us protect your postie." Deliveries could be temporarily suspended if a dog is roaming loose around a property. Households with dogs should also keep their pets away from the door when answering and consider fitting letter cages or external post-boxes.

Royal Mail also offers a downloadable postcard that can be printed and displayed in a door or window. The company explained: "This lets anyone delivering to your property know that you have a dog and asks them to wait whilst you secure your dog before opening the door."

The postal service added: "If we are delivering to your home address and you have a dog, help us deliver safely by keeping it secure and out of the way before your postie arrives."
