Paddington train disruption to last through morning rush hour

Commuters face major disruption on trains from London Paddington this morning, with overrunning engineering works blocking some lines and causing cancellations and schedule changes at least until 10am.

The Elizabeth line is part suspended in both directions between Paddington, Heathrow Terminals T4 and T5, and Reading, according to the latest TfL status update. There are also minor delays between Paddington and Abbey Wood. Great Western Railway (GWR) trains to and from Paddington are disrupted, as are Heathrow Express services.

National Rail statement

National Rail said: 'Overrunning engineering works between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals / Reading mean that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised.'

Frustrated passengers shared their experiences. One person said: '£30 for a cab to work. Elizabeth line is killing it this morning. All cancelled.' Another woman, apparently delayed from going to the London Film Festival, said: 'Elizabeth line has screwed me i will not be making it to watch Elsinore this morning at lff.'

Travel advice for passengers

Passengers with an Elizabeth line ticket can use London Underground on any reasonable route, South Western Railway between Waterloo and Reading, and London buses between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals, West Drayton or Reading without extra charge.

National Rail says that some GWR services between Paddington and Oxford, and Cardiff Central will not run in either direction. Frequently stopping services between Paddington and Didcot Parkway/Newbury will only run between Reading and Didcot Parkway/Newbury. Long-distance trains are set to continue running between Paddington and Reading, but might have delays.

The Heathrow Express will continue to run but less frequently, with departures from Paddington at 10 minutes and 40 minutes past the hour, while trains from Heathrow will leave at 12 minutes and 42 minutes past the hour.
