Met Office names 14 areas facing heavy rain on Friday

The Met Office has identified 14 areas of the UK that will experience heavy rain on Friday, August 28. The national forecaster said there will be “heavy showers across many areas” on that day, following thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, with yellow weather warnings in place for heavy rain and storms.

Unsettled Conditions Continue

These unsettled conditions will persist into Friday, with further showers or longer spells of rain possible alongside some drier and brighter periods. The Met Office stated: “Low pressure systems will continue to bring rain and heavy showers across many areas through this period. Temperatures trending nearer to average, but feeling warm in the sunnier moments.”

Areas Affected

The areas set to see rain on Friday include Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dumfries. The southwest of England (Plymouth, Exeter, Bath) and the northwest of England (Manchester, Liverpool, Carlisle) will also be hit. South Wales (Cardiff) and north Wales (Conwy) will see scattered showers.

Later in the day, the rain will move northeast, with heavy rain over the northeast (Newcastle, York). There will be scattered showers across the northwest, the Midlands, and East Anglia.

Today: Sunny spells and scattered showers moving northwards as the day progresses, some heavy with hail and thunder leading to the risk of flooding in places. Scotland remaining largely dry. Feeling warm and humid in the sunshine, with light winds.

Tonight: Showers easing this evening, though some making their way into southern Scotland. Further thunderstorms and torrential rain moving back into southern and central areas overnight. Turning murky in the north.

Thursday: Bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms slowly moving northwards across England and Wales, sunnier skies following from the southeast. Bright spells for Scotland and Northern Ireland, with scattered showers. Warm.
