Loud bang heard as power cut hits Newhey homes in Rochdale

Residents in Newhey, Rochdale, were left without power for about three hours after an incident that saw a 'loud bang' heard at the time the electricity went out.

Electricity North West said the loss of power was linked to 'third-party interference' on its high-voltage network in the area.

Third-party interference identified

In a message to residents seen by the Manchester Evening News, the network operator said: "Our investigations identified that the fault was linked to third-party interference on our high-voltage network."

The message added: "Reports from site indicated a loud bang was heard at a property on Ogden Lane at the same time the power interruption occurred."

Power restored for most

Electricity North West said that, as a result of the incident, one customer would remain off supply while further investigations were carried out and it was confirmed safe to restore their power.

For everyone else, power was restored at 23:17pm once checks were completed, the operator said.

The company added: "We appreciate your patience and understanding while we conducted investigations on what the root cause was."
