Jet2 has issued a reminder to passengers travelling with power banks and e-cigarettes, stating that these items must be carried in hand luggage and not placed in hold baggage. The airline is reaching out to travellers as many customers continue to book last-minute summer holidays before the peak season ends.
Placement rules for hand luggage items
The airline added that power banks and e-cigarettes must be placed under the seat in front of you rather than in the overhead locker. Passengers should ensure that any permitted items with lithium batteries are turned off, packed securely, with any exposed terminals protected against short circuits, and placed in hand luggage.
Damaged devices and small vehicles banned
Jet2 also warned that any damaged personal electronic devices or lithium batteries are not permitted on board. Additionally, small vehicles powered by lithium batteries, such as hoverboards and balance wheels, cannot be carried in either checked or hand baggage.
Safety focus behind the reminder
The reminder is part of Jet2's focus on keeping customers and colleagues safe, while ensuring that customers have clear information about what they can and cannot travel with, the airline says. David Hills, Chief Customer Officer at Jet2, said: “Lots of customers travel with everyday items such as power banks and e-cigarettes, so this is a simple but important reminder to check where they are packed before setting off for the airport.
"These items are common, but they do need to be carried correctly, and doing so helps us keep everyone safe while they travel to enjoy their well-deserved holidays."
