Gas leak shuts off Stockport road as firefighters called to scene

Fire crews and Cadent Gas engineers responded to a gas leak on Ernocroft Road in Marple Bridge, Stockport, on Thursday evening (October 8).

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.30pm. Cadent Gas and Greater Manchester Police were also in attendance.

Damaged pipe found

Firefighters located a damaged pipe that was the source of the leak and placed cordons around nearby homes.

Cadent Gas engineers have begun to repair the faulty pipe.

Response and departure

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 8.30pm this evening (Thursday 8 October), fire crews were called to reports of a gas leak on Ernocroft Road in Marple Bridge, Stockport."

"Two fire engines from Marple and Offerton quickly attended the scene."

"Firefighters confirmed a gas leak from a damaged gas pipe located outside and established safety cordons while assessments of nearby properties were carried out."

"Crews worked alongside Greater Manchester Police as well as Cadent Gas engineers, who began repairs to the damaged pipe."

"Firefighters left the scene after approximately one hour."
