Thousands of festivalgoers heading to Creamfields over the next four days should prepare for heavy rain and thunderstorms, according to forecasters. The event, which runs from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30, marks 20 years at its current site in the Daresbury countryside.
Met Office warns of heavy and thundery rain
The Met Office has said widespread slow-moving heavy and thundery rain is expected to spread north across the UK on Thursday, bringing the potential for prolonged periods of rainfall. Some areas could see significant rainfall over several hours, increasing the likelihood of localised impacts from heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Met Office chief forecaster Steve Willington said: “As we move into Wednesday there is a growing risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms, with warm and humid air helping to trigger heavy showers and thunderstorms. Some places could see significant amounts of rain falling in a short period of time, bringing the potential for localised flooding, travel disruption and frequent lightning.”
He added: “On Thursday, slow-moving heavy and thundery rain may bring prolonged rainfall to some areas, increasing the risk of localised impacts. There remains some uncertainty around where the heaviest rain will fall, so it is important to keep up to date with the latest forecast and warnings.”
Day-by-day forecast for Creamfields
According to BBC weather, the festival is set to be unsettled through Friday and into the weekend, with a mixture of thundery showers and some brighter spells. The forecast for each day is as follows:
- Thursday, August 27 – 21C
- Friday, August 28 – 20C
- Saturday, August 29 – 20C
- Sunday, August 30 – 21C
In its more detailed outlook for Thursday, the Met Office said: “Dry at first, before a band of rain moves northwards through the day, perhaps heavy and thundery. Frequent lightning and large hail are possible in places. Maximum temperature 24 °C.”
Looking ahead, the forecast added: “Remaining unsettled through Friday and the weekend, with further rain and showers, heavy and perhaps thundery at times. Some drier and brighter spells also developing. Temperatures near average.”
Festival line-up and attractions
Creamfields is one of the biggest music festivals in the world, featuring the best in electronic, dance, house, EDM and more flying in for the bank holiday weekend. The line-up includes familiar names such as Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Disclosure, Underworld (Live), Amelie Lens presents AURA, Becky Hill, Carl Cox and many more.
Away from the music, the festival also features a wide array of entertainment on-site. Following last year’s launch, Downtown is set to return in 2026, featuring everything from an on-site gym and five-a-side football to wellness classes, pampering and special secret sets.
