Blackpool Fireworks Finale Cancelled Over Unsafe Wind Forecast
Blackpool Fireworks Finale Cancelled Due to Wind Forecast

The final night of Blackpool’s World Fireworks Championships has been cancelled due to weather conditions. The event, which was due to take place on Saturday, October 10, will no longer go ahead after wind speeds and direction would make it unsafe to proceed.

The grand finale was set to light up Blackpool seafront on Saturday evening, with the build-up beginning at 7pm and the main fireworks display scheduled for 7.30pm. German team Haupt Feuerwerke had been due to close this year’s competition with the final display, having previously claimed the championship title in 2021.

Safety First for Teams and Spectators

VisitBlackpool stated the event has been closely monitored but weather conditions are predicted to be too unsafe to go ahead. VisitBlackpool said: "Unfortunately, due to forecast weather conditions, the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool on Saturday 10 October has been cancelled."

"Following close monitoring throughout the week, the predicted wind speed and direction would make it unsafe for the event to go ahead." The statement added: "We know this will be disappointing for everyone who was planning to attend, but the safety of our fireworks teams and spectators must come first."

Earlier Events and Possible Rescheduling

World Fireworks Championship Blackpool kicked off the first of what should've been three events on September 12 with Celtic Fireworks representing Wales. On September 26, Fireworks for Africa represented South Africa in the event's second scheduled evening.

After the cancellation of the closing night event, VisitBlackpool said it would explore potential future dates for the event over the coming days. The statement concluded: "We will review whether there may be an opportunity for the event to take place at a future date and will provide updates if appropriate. Thank you for your understanding."
