BBC Tells Celebrity Traitors Fans to Check TV Licence Now

The BBC has sent a clear message to viewers of Celebrity Traitors, urging them to ensure they have a TV Licence. With four episodes already aired, the broadcaster is reminding audiences of the legal requirement to be covered.

During the broadcast of the show and its companion programme Uncloaked, a voiceover featuring Claudia Winkleman told viewers: “Loving The Celebrity Traitors? Enjoy it all with a TV Licence.” The TV Licensing logo then appeared on screen.

Next Episode and Potential Fine

The next episode is scheduled to air on Thursday, October 15, at 8pm. TV Licensing warns that those watching without a licence could face prosecution, with a maximum penalty of a £1,000 fine plus legal costs or compensation. In Guernsey, the maximum fine is £2,000.

A standard TV Licence costs £180, while a black-and-white licence costs £60.50.

What a TV Licence Covers

TV Licensing explains that a licence covers a household for all TV channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, U&Dave, and international channels. It also covers pay TV services like Sky, Virgin Media, and EE TV, as well as live TV on streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. Everything on BBC iPlayer is included, along with watching, recording, and downloading on any device.

The reminder notes that a licence is needed not just for a TV set but for other devices too. TV Licensing states: "If you're catching up on BBC iPlayer on your phone as you commute to work, you need a licence. Streaming a live YouTube channel via your game console? You need a licence. Getting stuck into Sky Sports action live on your laptop or tablet? You need a licence for this, too. This includes recording and downloading."
