Singapore Airlines currently operates the world's longest non-stop flight, a 9,537-mile journey from New York's JFK Airport to Singapore Changi that lasts 18 hours and 50 minutes. The service, launched in 2018, uses an Airbus A350-900ULR equipped with an enhanced fuel system capable of carrying up to 24,000 litres, enough to stay airborne for over 20 hours without refuelling.
Exclusive Cabin Configuration
The A350-900ULR features an ultra-exclusive layout with no Economy class, offering only 67 Business Class seats and 94 Premium Economy tickets per flight. Singapore Airlines has highlighted that the aircraft provides a more comfortable experience with higher ceilings, larger windows, an extra-wide body, and lighting designed to reduce jetlag. The carbon composite airframe also improves air quality for passengers.
Record Set to Be Broken
Singapore Airlines is expected to lose the record to Qantas Airways, which plans to launch a non-stop service between Sydney and London in October 2027. The Qantas route will cover 10,573 miles and fly over the North Pole, surpassing the current longest flight by over 1,000 miles.
CEO's Vision
At the launch of the Singapore Airlines service in 2018, CEO Goh Choon Phong said: “Singapore Airlines has always taken pride in pushing the boundaries to provide the best possible travel convenience for our customers, and we are pleased to be leading the way with these new non-stop flights using the latest technology, ultra-long-range Airbus A350-900ULR.”
