VisitScotland has crowned six picturesque hikes as the best autumn walks in Scotland, sharing the list on Sunday, October 11, for those seeking the season's magical atmosphere.
Plodda Falls and Roslin Glen Highlighted
One of the walks included is Plodda Falls in Glen Affric, a magnificent waterfall about five kilometres southwest of the Highlands village of Tomich. The waterfall sits among towering trees that turn warm shades during autumn.
Described by Forestry and Land Scotland as "one of Scotland's most spectacular waterfalls," Plodda Falls is in a remote area but easily reached, with free parking and a signposted path to the Plodda Falls Trail.
Another top walk is Roslin Glen Country Park in Midlothian, a wooded glen in the North Esk Valley near Roslin village. The park features one of the largest stretches of ancient woodland in the area and is a haven for wildlife.
Other Walks on the List
Bowmont Forest in Kelso, formerly known as Bowmont Moor and once a racecourse, offers three marked walking trails with autumnal views. The Falls of Bruar in Perthshire provides a dramatic woodland trail with views of waterfalls and rock structures, including an easy walk to lower falls and a harder full circuit.
Lynn Falls in North Ayrshire features a short trail through a wooded glen, popular with families due to carved wooden features and fairy houses. The Falls of Clyde near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark is reached via a three-mile self-guided trail starting at New Lanark.
