Passengers on Ryanair and easyJet flights could secure extra legroom without paying a premium by following a simple seating rule, according to consumer experts at Which?.
The right-side trick
In a post on Instagram, Which? said: "Want more legroom on a flight? Just sit on the right." They claim that almost all Ryanair planes are Boeing 737 models, and add that: "Choosing seats D, E or F in rows 3 to 15 will give you the most legroom."
For easyJet, Which? advised: "You should choose seats D, E or F in rows 3 to 13 if you're flying on their Airbus A321neo. It will give you an extra inch of legroom compared to sitting in rows 6 to 17 on the left-hand side of the plane."
Checking your aircraft model
It was stressed that all planes are different, so booking these specific seat tricks only works if the aircraft model matches the advice. It's always worth checking before you book.
To find out what type of plane you're flying on, Which? said: "Just head to Google Flights and type your destination and dates in to find the model number. Then use Seat Plan Experts Aeroloper to find your aircraft configuration."
Alternatively, use your own booking information by logging into your airline account or app. Look for an option to choose or change your seat, as the aircraft model name is almost always printed at the top of the digital seating map.
